No sooner there but gone...

The way of things, I suppose. For some time now I've reported my blog address as kevin.mackey.name/blog. It was a nce feature provided by the company managing my .name domain.

They provided a variety of redirections, e-mail, twitter, facebook and blogs.That is, until they stopped providing anything at all. So, the management of my .name has been taken over.They provide redirection, for e-mail and to another domain for the address kevin.mackey.name.

Anything following the .name, you're on your own. So my /blog suffix no longer achieves anything. It is ever thus.

Fridayflash works

I've been blogging for a number of years now. While it is good to carve out a portion of the wild, wild web for myself, I knew I was scribbling away quietly off in a corner.

I'm still off in a corner, and still scribbling quietly. But for a larger audience, for which I am very grateful.

The reason for the additional traffic is #fridayflash, a combination of the reach of Twitter and the imagination of J. M. Strother (http://www.jmstrother.com).

Jon's thought was to have a number of people write a flash piece (1,000 words or fewer) each week, post them, each to his or her own blog, and tweet the fact - including URL and the tag, #fridayflash. Re-tweeting extends the news of a new story beyond the range of an individual's own followers.

The traffic information shows the impact. The first couple of weeks attracted 20-odd visitors, no mean increment over the usual traffic to my blog.

The last two weeks. Well, they are quite different.

An initial entry

This is the first of my blog entries using TypePad. I am hopeful that this environment, being somewhat more mainstream then Windows Live Spaces, will provide me access from mobile devices and allow me to incorporate external content - such as Twitter - more easily.
