...well, not water actually.
I, most often, drink diet coke. In those small plastic bottles. The ones with the screw-on tops. Which I usually keep screwed-on.
I keep them screwed on because I'm somewhat clumsy. Or, if nothing else, I've learned over the years that I don't always look at what I'm doing when I reach for the bottle. Like when I'm reading and feel like something to drink.
The results are predictable.
But, there are occasions when I drink something other than diet coke. Yesterday was one such. A combination of Italian blood orange soda and Italian grapefruit soda. The grapefruit by itself is too tart. The blood orange softens it a bit—and the resultant drink is pink. That can't be bad, can it?
Glasses don't have screw-on tops. And they have wider mouths than those little plastic bottles. And I was reading.
My laptop was next to the glass. As was my cellphone. Two phones, actually. Don't ask. I have a technology habit, that's all.
A Glimmer Train quarterly. An Asimov science-fiction magazine.
I caught the glass before it had...entirely...emptied itself.
On some days I've been heard to say "I tire of myself."
As mentioned above, yesterday was one such.
Ugh. Fortunately, I drink mostly water, and my laptop is elevated on the desk. So those spillage incidents mainly drench a USB keyboard, which is in need of an occasional washdown anyway.
ReplyDeleteWater seems a safer bet, Larry, for a whole variety of reasons. :)
DeleteThe phone's working. A USB drive that got doused also seems to work as well. The screen of my laptop needs work and the delete key makes a sticking noise that I'm growing increasingly uncomfortable with.
Thanks for stopping by.
Oh, that sounds bad! Luckily, I don't spill drinks, but I have fallen asleep with the laptop on my lap in bed and... turned. Yeah, a piece broke off the left display latch, but at least all else is good :)
ReplyDeleteSo far, Estrella, the only impact of my falling asleep on my laptop has been the imprint of a keyboard on my cheek. Not a very chic(!) look.
DeleteGlad your incident hasn't rendered your laptop unusable. Mine's still surviving, so far.
Hmm. I don't often feel like something to drink. Sometimes I do identify with chicken soup though, when I'm sick or coffee when I'm tired. When I get wound up I feel quite like a shot of espresso. Just ask my friends.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't resist, Kevin. It's payback for your burning brain retort. Sorry about your electronics though. I live in terror of dousing my computers, but I too persist in keeping drink nearby. Slow learners, that's what we are.
Resistance...futile, eh?
DeleteThank you for that, Ms. Joanne. Revenge. Best served...with a shot of espresso. :D
Yes. In many, nay, the important things I continue to be a slow learner. As I mention above, the laptop has survived for the moment. The Asimov magazine, on drying out, stiffened somewhat.
Take care, my friend.
