Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
I'm afraid, Horace and and I are going to have to disagree. To die for one's country - Honorable, certainly. Necessary, unfortunately sometimes yes. Courageous, always. But there is nothing sweet about it.
And so, we must be thankful that there are those who are prepared to, and indeed do, sacrifice everything they are for their country.
And those of us who do not go that far, we have our own duty. It is not simply "not to forget". We are called to actively remember those who sacrifice all. Remember who they are. Remember that they stand for us, between us and harm. Remember that they answered when called.
All honor to them. May we remember them, and be grateful.
Well said, Kevin.
