P is for...

...Poetry

The artful, graceful, powerful use of words. Nothing else comes close.

And, should you be uncertain, here is Emily Dickinson on the topic of words:

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.

I say it just
Begins to live
That day.

Were I to never read any other poetry than that of Emily Dickinson, I would still receive full measure of what poetry is and can be. I remain awestruck whenever I read her.

  1. I've never read Emily Dickinson - or any other book of poetry. It's not until I've reached a certain age that I've begun to appreciate the finer points of it.

  4. I agree with the rest. I used to read more poetry than I do now... for now I simply enjoy the work of friends-who to me, are much more influential.

  6. Sorry folks for taking so long to get back to thank you for the comments - not the best of weeks this last one.

I'm glad, and not at all surprised, that I am not alone in my fondness for Emily Dickinson. She's my favorite female poet. To Yeats goes the nod for favorite male poet.

Thank you all, so much, for visiting and for your comments. They, and you, are always appreciated.
