Lucky Seven - Current WIP (They Call Us Dark)

I was tagged by my friend, Estrella Azul, as part of the Lucky Seven meme currently making the rounds of the Interwebs.

The rules of the meme are as follows:

  1. Go to page 77 in your current manuscript
  2. Go to line 7
  3. Copy down the next 7 lines as they are - no cheating
  4. Tag 7 other authors (done on Facebook)

The work-in-progress I'm using is this "once and future" story that I've been working on for far too long. But I'm getting there.

Telepathic aliens run across a potentially sentient race of mammals - although there's a problem in communicating. Can communication be effected before the remainder of the species, to which the two the telepaths have abducted belong, arrives?

Is the mammalian species bellicose? (They're humans - so the question sort of answers itself, no?)

Might they take it amiss that two of theirs were abducted? You betcha.

So, in accordance with the rules of the meme, here are the seven lines.

Ryuu (I understand, Scholar Alphard.)

I waited as he sifted through the possible outcomes of the new, truncated, time frame. I could see he was near a decision and so pressed a little harder.

Me (There's no need for our arrival at the location of these creatures to attract much attention. It can all be arranged out of the glare of public view.)

By the way, the telepaths can't speak, and sound isn't really a concept for them. Difficulties ensue.

Many thanks to Estrella for picking on me (I'm sure I could have worded that better) :)

I'll now give some thought to how to/who to pass this on.

  1. Even from seven simple lines, this sounds very interesting, Kevin!

    1. Thanks, Estrella. I find it interesting, I have to admit (but then, I should, shouldn't I?)

It still needs work to get it to flow properly, but I'm getting there.

  2. This Lucky Seven has been producing some curious little slices of MS pie! Your telepaths are intriguing. :)

    1. Agreed - the snippets are intriguing. Glad you find my telepaths so. It's been fun to build an entire world (or set of them) rather different from ours.

  3. This looks like it could easily shape up to be a tragedy of errors. Communication between sentient species (or the lack thereof) can make for a great story hook. Best of luck with it!

    1. Thanks, Larry. It's coming together well. I hope to have it polished before too long.
