Unpacking the kitchen brought a surprise. My father, knowing my fondness for single malt scotch, bought me a long time ago a Distiller's Edition taster set — a half-dozen or so single shot bottles of fine, fine scotch.

I thought them all gone.

I was incorrect.

I raise a glass of Oban, distilled in 1980, to the memory of my father. Sláinte.
